COMPUTER LAB - HOT POTATOES

Hot Potatoes is a suite of applications for creating web-based quizzes. This easy-to-use freeware helps you make great multiple choice, short-answer, jumbled-sentence, matching and gap-fill quizzes and crossword puzzles. Tutorials in English and more than a dozen other languages are provided and if you don't have a website you can upload your quizzes to the Hot Potatoes server. Many of the exercises in the ESL Resource Center were created with an early version of Hot Potatoes (see http://eslus.com/LESSONS/READING/CLOZE/R1.HTM  an example). Web-based quizzes are great time-savers for teachers because they can be used over and over again year after year and because basic templates can be adapted for making many different quizzes. They are also great for students because they provide immediate feedback and are much more game-like and enjoyable than paper-based quizzes. If students use Hot Potatoes to develop their own quizzes, the benefits of the software are expanded even further.
